Alabama defensive back arrested

 TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest over the weekend, coach Kalen DeBoer said Monday.

Kirkpatrick was arrested Saturday on three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of attempting to elude and speeding. He was released from Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $1,500 bond.

"Unfortunately, with the information that I have at this time, I talked to Dre, and we need to indefinitely suspend him," DeBoer said. "He understands there are consequences that come with his actions."

Kirkpatrick, a sophomore and son of former Alabama defensive back and NFL veteran Dre Kirkpatrick, has eight tackles, including one for a loss, one pass defense and a forced fumble this season.

No. 4 Alabama hosts LSU on Saturday.

Ohio fire Coach Smith For Cause

  Ohio University fired football coach Brian Smith for cause on Wednesday, more than two weeks after he was unexpectedly placed on leave by the university. “ The termination follows an administrative review of allegations that Smith violated the terms of his employment agreement by engaging in serious professional misconduct and participating in activities that reflect unfavorably on the University,” the university said in a statement. It did not elaborate on the specifics of the allegations. “We vigorously dispute Ohio University’s grounds for the termination for cause of Coach Brian Smith,” Smith’s attorney, Rex Elliott, said in a statement Wednesday. “He is shocked and dismayed by this turn of events, and we plan to fight this wrongful termination to protect his good name.
